Academic Research Collaboration

Motrac Research Engineering was founded from a collaboration with the University of Chester, and working alongside academic institutions has remained central to what we do ever since.

Since then we've partnered with universities and researchers across a range of disciplines, bringing industrial engineering expertise to bear on academic research questions.

We support academic partners through joint research projects and grant funded collaborations, as well as providing technical input, testing facilities, and field trial capability that many university departments don't have in-house. This can mean helping design and build an experimental rig, running lab or field testing on a researcher's behalf, providing real world data to support a research question, or contributing engineering expertise towards a funding bid from an early stage.

Our background gives us a perspective that's slightly different to a typical research partner — we've spent 40 years solving practical engineering problems in industry, and we bring that same hands on, results-focused approach to academic work. That means research doesn't stay theoretical: we help translate it into working prototypes, tested products, and real world applications, while academic partners retain the intellectual credit and ownership of the research itself.

Whether you're at the start of a research idea and need a technical partner to help shape it, or you already have a project underway and need engineering, testing, or prototyping support to take it further, we'd be glad to talk it through.

If you're a researcher or institution looking for an industry partner with genuine engineering depth, get in touch — we'd love to talk about how we could work together.
